This kickboxing art focuses on using the body efficiently to maximize the speed and power of strikes. Muay Thai, today, is fought with boxing gloves inside a boxing ring. However, its origins originated from battle. Soldiers would compete against each other in Muay Thai matches to hone their skills for battle. Traditionally hemp rope and resin was used in lieu of boxing gloves.

This martial arts origin can be traced back to any ancient civilization. However, the sport of Boxing as we know it today has it origins in Ancient Greece where competitors were known as pugilists. The sport of boxing was transformed into a heavily regulated and structured sport after the adoption of the Queensbury rules in the 1800’s. The “Sweet Science” is not the art of throwing punches, it is the art of throwing effective punches while not getting struck in return.
